Electrical enclosures accumulate heat from variable-frequency drives, power supplies, PLC equipment and other components. A suitable climate-control solution must keep the internal temperature within the equipment limits while preserving the enclosure protection required by the site.
Filter fans are normally considered when the ambient air is clean enough and cooler than the required enclosure temperature. Closed-loop cooling units or heat exchangers may be more appropriate where ambient temperature, dust, oil mist or humidity makes direct air exchange unsuitable.

A filter fan is generally considered when ambient air is sufficiently cool and clean, and direct air exchange is acceptable. Heat load and protection requirements still need verification.
